It's great news, when a business gets their first international inquiry to export their product overseas. The import client is requesting the business provide them a Proforma Invoice based on FOB terms for their acceptance before placing the final order. What does all this mean?

What is a Proforma invoice for an import - export shipment?

A Proforma invoice is the initial agreement on the price of the product, under what type of terms the shipment will be moved overseas, and how seller will be paid. It is in the similar format of a commercial invoice that is used on domestic shipments, but internationally it will be used as a sales quote initially. Once accepted, it can become the purchase order agreement.

Complete the Proforma invoice like it normally would a commercial invoice, with the sold to party as the foreign buyer’s name. The product should be itemized, with the quantity and price per unit indicated on the document. Remember, the foreign buyer will need to present the final commercial invoice to the Customs officials in their country for duty and tax purposes so this information is necessary.
